URGI-Kids Pediatric Urgent Care Q & A

What is urgent care?

URGI-Kids Pediatric Urgent Care provides prompt medical care for non-life-threatening concerns that need to be seen right away. If your child is injured playing sports injury or falling, has an allergic reaction, or breaks out in a sudden rash, urgent care offers the diagnosis and treatment needed to help them heal quickly.

If you suffer from a severe, life-threatening condition, like severe trauma or head injuries, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest hospital emergency room without delay.

Milder emergencies, like a moderate fever or swelling in reaction to a bug bite, get excellent care through urgent care at the Center for Advanced Pediatrics. You don’t have to wait hours to get attention, and the care is more affordable.

What conditions do you treat at urgent care?

The pediatric urgent care services offered at both Connecticut offices are available for many illnesses and injuries, including:

  • Burns
  • Lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Strains and sprains
  • Suspected fractures
  • Allergic reactions
  • Asthma
  • Insect bites or stings
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Nose bleeds
  • Unexplained pain or swelling
  • Food allergies
  • Food poisoning

The pediatric urgent care team can apply stitches and order X-rays.

Why should I choose urgent care for my child?

URGI-Kids Pediatric Urgent Care is quicker and more affordable than your local emergency room. Even if the Center for Advanced Pediatrics team doesn’t provide your child’s primary care, they’re available for immediate appointments for all patients. You get individualized care in a comfortable and inviting environment.

What happens during an urgent care appointment?

At an urgent care visit, your provider reviews your child’s medical history and the medications your child takes. They thoroughly examine the injury, review symptoms, and ask questions about the circumstances that lead to the concern.

Depending on the injury or illness, your child might need lab testing, diagnostic imaging, or blood tests. For example, if your child twisted their ankle on the soccer field, they’ll need an X-ray to rule out a fracture.

Once your child has a diagnosis, they get the needed care. It could be stitches, a prescription, a sling, a cast, or directions for at-home care.

Contact the Center for Advanced Pediatrics if you need urgent care services for your child. Call right away or use the online tool to schedule.
